The boyfriend and I were lucky enough to escape the dreadful rain in Vancouver to depart to beautiful, sunny Los Angeles! There are so many things to see and do in L.A. and a week was just barely enough for everything that we planned for.
We went to the J. Paul Getty Museum and the history of all the art and cultural pieces were quite fascinating! Met an info attendant named Wazir who gave us the inside scoop of where the best place to take a picture of the central garden would be. He also suggested that we visit the Getty Villa in Venice if we had time, but we didn’t get the chance to. We then went to see the Hollywood sign up at the Griffith Observatory. Great view!
Later that night was the LA Clippers vs New Orleans Hornets at the Staples Center. Oh hay, Odom!
The next day we visited Universal Studios. We were *smart* enough to get the Front of Line Passes which meant that you could basically skip to the front of the line for all rides. It was definitely worth it! My favourite ride was the Jurassic Park ride; I remember the drop being so much longer when I was younger! The other rides were mostly simulated 4D. Fun overall! Got to meet a bunch of different characters around the park too: Scooby Doo, the Grinch, Dora, The Simpsons, Spongebob, Shrek & more!
I heard that the San Diego Zoo was pretty awesome so we made a day trip to San Diego the following day. Awesome is an understatement! This zoo is humungous and you could easily spend half a day there gazing at all the animals. I was excited to see the pandas, but they were sleeping when we were there! Seeing the giraffes and elephants were my fav though.
The day after, we started off with brunch at Bottega Louie. I had the farmer’s breakfast which came with poached eggs, potatoes and veggies. The waitress suggested we try the portobello mushroom fries– & they were to die for! We also tried their macarons for dessert. Salted caramel macaron? Mmm. We then went to the L.A. Fashion District and it was madness all around. Imagine the Vancouver Night Market, but 10x more crowded. Ohhh and to use the washroom in one of the buildings, they charged $0.50 a head! What in tarnations?! I’ve never had to pay to use a public washroom.
That night, we drove to the Santa Monica Pier and caught a ride on the ferris wheel. Quite lovely, but it started to rain a bit! Then we walked along the Third Street Promenade for some shopping.
The next day was our last and we decided to walk around Santa Monica again during the day and then drove to Venice Beach before we hit LAX. The weather during the whole trip was sunny, but it got a bit chillier at night.
The other days were spent shopping/window shopping at the Desert Hills Outlet, Melrose, Beverly Blvd and the Westfield shopping malls.
Overall, the trip was fantastic. Fun it was & now it’s back to reality. Hope you are all having a wonderful holiday & Merry Christmas!
I’ll be back, L.A.!
